Navigating Your
First Time as a

People
Manager

Congrats and welcome to management!
Now what?

Regardless if you’re managing a team of 1 or a team of 10, the first time experience is similar:

  • You want your former peers to respect you in this new role.

  • You’re learning how to delegating work vs. doing it yourself.

  • You’re unsure of what your deliverables are as a people manager.

  • You want to avoid making the same mistakes past managers made.

  • You wish you had practical resources and expertise to guide you.

This is where you and I meet.

Becoming a people manager is a career change

The biggest lesson I learned when I became a people manager for the first time is that it’s actually a career change. The expectations are different. The skills and experience required to be successful is completely different from my previous role as an individual contributor.

On top of that, I wasn’t provided with the coaching or tools I needed at the time. I had to figure it out through trial and error. Unfortunately, this is a common experience that many first time people managers experience.

Solution

Trying to figure things out on your own doesn’t have to be your only option.

There’s another path you can take to accelerate your growth and work through the unique set of challenges you’re going through. It’s one-on-one people management coaching.

My biggest career challenge was taking the next step in my career, which was managing a team. I was nervous to take the next step because I am not expert in the new role yet.

My favorite takeaway from coaching with Leang is she made me feel comfortable and heard. She kept the sessions organized and productive.

Leang helped us become more stable as a company in a time of growth and transition. We leaned on her for people policy creation, leadership coaching, staff conflict resolution, and sensitive situations. I highly recommend Leang’s services.
